About T1DCAT
Who we are
T1DCAT (Type 1 Diabetes Children And Teenagers) was set up in 2018, by a group of parents of teenagers and children with type 1 diabetes within the Northern Ireland Southern Trust area, in order to offer support to families and raise awareness of the condition.
Our aims
- To bring together families for support through organised activities and educational events
- To raise public awareness about type 1 diabetes
- To fundraise for T1DCAT and other diabetes charities
Since that time, we have delivered countless activities and events for our young people who have to live with this disease every day.
As parents of those young people, we also support each other through our shared experiences and by providing practical tips and advice.

Cara
Chairperson
Hi, I’m Cara and I’m the Chairperson of T1DCAT.
My daughter Darcy was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was five years old.
Darcy recently moved into ‘the big school’ and this is bringing its own challenges, which we are working through.
Adele
Treasurer
Hi, my name is Adele and I am the Treasurer for T1DCAT.
I am mum to Ryan, who was diagnosed when he was aged eight.
This group has been a great support for all of us parents as we share experiences going through the daily challenges of managing diabetes.
Lisa
Committee Member
Hi, my name is Lisa and I am a committee member of T1DCAT.
My daughter Aisling was diagnosed at three years old in April 2015.
It’s been tough at times, but this group is fantastic and we all help each other when needed.
Jill
Committee Member
Hi, my name is Jill and I am a committee member for T1DCAT.
My son Lewis was diagnosed when he was two years old.
Like everyone else, we have our good days and bad days, but Lewis is a happy, healthy child and diabetes has never stopped him doing anything he has wanted to do.
Susan
Committee Member
Hi, my name is Susan and I’m a member of the T1DCAT committee.
My daughter is Ros and she was diagnosed on her seventh birthday. She is now a teenager and loving life.
This group has been a wonderful support for parents and the kids. They have made great friendships and they really look after each other.
Geraldine
Committee Member
Hi, my name is Geraldine and I am a Committee member of T1DCAT.
My daughter is Hannah, and she was diagnosed with type 1 when she was four. She also has coeliac disease.
We have loved being a part of T1DCAT. We have both met friends for life and the support we get when we need it is available at any time.
